That little plan went great! I sold a lot of bread, and reminded people how good fresh bread is. It's led to repeat customers! But Vexford is embarrassed. And an embarrassed man is dangerous. Take this to my daughter Laura. She's my oldest and smartest. She lives in Kur, in self-inflicted banishment. Tell her it's time to come home.

<i>[Laura laughs bitterly.]</i> He can't write a letter without saying something to intentionally piss me off. I know he loves me. And he's been there for me when I needed him, but it's never felt like ... well, like how a father should care about his daughter. When I was young and the bakery was flourishing, an orc gang kidnapped me for ransom. Do you know what my father did? He haggled. Successfully, mind you, but they're fucking ORCS. They could have killed me out of rage! I was so scared. When I was caught in bed with a woman, did he use his immense clout with the Council to get us off the hook? No. He bribed a guard. Marie and I had to sneak out of Statehelm and never return. I love the man, and to be truthful I don't bear him ill will. I think of him fondly sometimes. But I'm not coming to his rescue. Tell Dad I miss his walnut bread, but I'm never returning to Statehelm again. This is the second time he's asked, and if he asks again I'll cut off all communication with him forever.

Laura said no again? That's on me: I thought you were more charismatic than you are. I'll wait a few months and try again, and this time I'll send along some walnut bread. Now that her missus is dead there's no reason she can't come home. She's just inherited the Neth stubbornness. But walnut bread can fix a lot of problems.
